Education and Outreach
The State College Branch is active in many education and outreach projects. Current projects include:
- CSI - Challenging Science Investigations and GaLS (Girls Love Science)
The Challenging Science Investigations program provides girls with an opportunity to work in teams as they design and construct a roller coaster, analyze a crime scene, and design/construct/test a Rube Goldberg machine. Participants have an opportunity to meet professional women in the sciences and learn about their fascinating and fulfilling careers. This program is funded through a grant provided by the State College Branch of AAUW.
AAUW and the Bellefonte Area School District are offering GaLS, a science and math- oriented program for middle school girls. - Mentoring
The purpose of the AAUW/CDG Mentoring Program is to enhance the inclusion of local women from underrepresented groups in the State College communities by connecting them with others who can provide friendship and advice on a variety of issues, including networking, career planning, and community involvement. - ¡Adelante! Book Club
The ¡Adelante! Book Club is the AAUW's diversity focused book club. We read and discuss books that celebrate diversity. The books we choose to read are typically selected from the AAUW Book Club list. - Community Involvement
The AAUW State College Branch is actively involved in many community activities. Please visit to learn more. - Public Policy
The Public Policy Committee works to actively support AAUW's Public Policy Priorities for 2008-2009; a strong system of quality public education that promotes gender fairness, equity and diversity; achievement of women's economic self-sufficiency; and equality, individual rights and social justice for a diverse society.
