¡Adelante! Book Club
The ¡Adelante! Book Club is the AAUW's diversity focused book club. We read and discuss books that celebrate diversity. The books we choose to read are typically selected from the AAUW Book Club list.
East-West Crossings Book Group (formerly Wegmans group)
The group which used to be called the Wegmans group is now the East-West Crossing group due to the change of venue. The next meeting is Thursday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. to discuss Thinking In Pictures, by Temple Grandin, a densely-packed, informative book about Temple Grandin and her life and career as an autistic person.
Other books that we are considering as selections for 2011 include:
- The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life of Francis Perkins, FDR's Secretary of Labor and His Moral Conscience by Kerstin Downey
- A Mercy by Toni Morrison
- I'll Go and Do More: Annie Dodge Wauneka, Navajo Leader and Activist by Carolyn Niethammer
We may choose one of these books for our March selection. However, we also read books suggested by our members, if they concern women or diversity. Please submit your ideas to pbk1@verizon.net. Visit http://www.aauw.org/connect/adelante/index.cfm for additional book ideas.
Foxdale Book Group
The next Foxdale Book Group meeting is on Wednesday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. in The Puzzle Room of the Community Building. Our book, A Mercy, by Toni Morrison, is a poetic story of the hardships of both blacks and whites in rural Virginia in the 1680s.
