The State College Branch of AAUW was founded in 1916 and has approximately 160 members who continually seek ways to work toward improving the lives of all women. (View Strategic Plan)

Branch History of Community Service
Our branch has a long history of commitment of community service. A few highlights include:
- Founding of the Voluntary Action Corps (now known as the Community Help Centre)
- Founding of PhoneFriend, a helpline for "latchkey" children
- Providing financial support to Family Health Services
Community Service Initiatives
- Financial grants to local non-profit charitable groups, made possible by our annual used book sale, with preference given to groups which include women, serve women, and whose primary thrust is educational
- Four $5,000 grants to adult women in Centre County who are resuming undergraduate work
- Support of AAUW fellowship and research programs, libraries, high school and graduate scholarship, and legislative efforts on behalf of women
- Science and math programs for middle-school girls, including CSI (Challenging Science Investigations) in State College, and GaLS (Girls Love Science) in Bellefonte
